One thing I hear over and over is that Christians are judgemental and intolerant. And you know what? The people that say those things are absolutly 100% right. There, I said it. Instead of letting the love that God bestowed upon us through Jesus flow out from us, we put up a dam and hold all that love in. Instead of showing the love of God, we take it upon ourselves to be the judge and jury for those sick in sin. This is wrong, and it must stop.
First John 3:18 says this, "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.(KJV)" John gives us a different approach. Instead of keeping the love of God bottled up in us, we need to show it to others. Look at his words. He tells us not to love in word or tongue. In other words, we our love shouldn't be only spoken and forgotten. We say we love others, when we're in church we talk about our love for family and coworkers. Then, when Monday rolls around, we are rude to the fast food worker who forgot our hashbrowns, we spread gossip about a coworker, and we give a certain salute with one finger to someone who cuts us off in traffic. Do you see a problem here?
God is love. God loves us, even when we don't love Him. In fact, it was that love for you that prompted Him to send Jesus to pay the sin debt you or I could not pay. It's hard for us, as humans, to understand that kind of love. We can begin to show that kind of love when we show our love for others through deeds and truth. In other words, John is saying that if you claim you have love for others, then it is proven through your deeds.
How do you love others. Is it with that one finger salute I wrote about earlier? Or do your actions prove your love for others. All week, I've been writing about how our attitude is what controls our actions. If you have an attitude of love, you'll show that love to all those around you. how do YOU love others? Think about it.
