You Are The Temple of God

What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
First Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV

I love reading and studying the letters of Paul because he is always straight to the point, no candy coating kind of preacher. That is what I strive to be. Paul is teaching in First Corinthians 6:12-20 that the believer is a temple of the Holy Ghost. He talks about abstaining from sexual sins. "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." First Corinthians 6:18. In a world that says, "sex is good, don't wait for marriage!" and "do what pleases you, fulfill your desires!" Paul is giving a radically different message here. He is teaching that we must flee sexual immorality because it damages our body. If we damage our body, we damage the temple of God. How?

The Holy Spirit is given to us at that moment of salvation. The Spirit comes in and guides us through life, helping us to live and grow the way God expects. The Spirit is in us. Paul says, in verse 20, that we must glorify God in our bodies and in our spirits. Why? Because we were bought with  a price and we belong to God. The price that God paid for us is the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. Believe me, that is worth more than the price of oil or gold today.

So I challenge you, this day. Start living to glorify God. There is no greater freedom, and no greater way to live than to live the life that God has called you to live.
