Walk By Faith
6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
-2 Corinthians 5:6-8 (KJV)
In yesterdays post, I wrote about the importance of keeping focused on Jesus. I wrote about how we must look to what is unseen, instead of focusing on what is going on around us. In chapter 5 of Second Corinthians, Paul spends some time writing about how we, as Christians, have a heavenly home, apart from this earthly body. This goes along with our topic from yesterday, as I will show you.
Paul writes in verse 7, "For we walk by faith and not by sight." What does he mean by that? I think the key to discovering what his meaning for this is found in verse 6, "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord;" While we are still living here on earth, we are absent from our heavenly dwelling. Then, he says in verse 8, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." Notice, twice in this short section of Scripture, Paul uses the word confident. What does confident mean? Confident means, according to dictionary.com, "feeling or showing certainty about something." What is Paul showing certainty about? That if we are absent from the Lord while we are living on the earth, one day, when we are absent from the earth, we'll be present with the Lord. Do you see it? Our confidence as Christians is that there is more that what we see around us, that one day, all our problems and the things we feared about will no longer be there! When Paul says "we walk by faith, not by sight" he is saying that we put our focus on the unseen (faith) and not on what is seen (sight). Let me put it this way, as long as we are at home in the body, Christians will walk by faith, trusting in the Lord for guidance. As Christians, we should never walk without the direction of God. If we walk by sight, we'll never accomplish what God intends for us to do here on earth. Why? Because things like fear will keep us from accomplishing the will of God.
As you start this new day, commit to walking by faith in God, not by what you see around you. Think About It.
