Walk In Christ

6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
-Colossians 2:6-7 (KJV)

How are you walking today? I'm not talking about your physical walk, but your spiritual walk. If I asked you if you could honestly say, "Yes, I'm walking with Jesus" could you do it? Paul offers some practical things in Colossians 2:6-7, things that I think will help us in our day to day walk with Jesus.

He starts out verse 6 saying, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:" Paul is challenging the Christians, those who have given their lives to Christ, to walk like Him. Some translations say, "continue to live your lives in him." In other words, we must live our lives the way Jesus lived His. We must walk in the paths that Jesus tells us to walk. Are you doing that? Are you truly following the paths that Jesus tells you to follow? Are you fulfilling what He has called you to do? Paul is teaching us that we must walk in Christ if we are going to live a successful Christian life. Are you doing that today?

We must also be "rooted and built up in him," One phrase I used to hear often is people saying "We're laying down roots in our new town." Are you rooting yourself in Christ. Think of the trees that are outside your window now. Here in East Tennessee, I have huge, towering trees that stand many feet into the air. What if they had no roots? What if they only had shallow roots, just far enough to grab a sip of nourishment from the ground? What would happen is that at the slightest wind, they would come crashing down. We, as Christians, must not be satisfied with shallow roots in our lives, getting only a sip of nourishment from Christ. We must walk in Christ, we must put down our roots in Him, roots that are not shallow, but deep. So that when trials and troubles come our way, we'll be able to stand, and not crash down. We must be rooted, but also" built up in Him." As our roots go deeper, our life will begin to grow in Him. Our faith will grow, giving us confidence despite our circumstances. As your roots grow deeper, your life grows up. We are built up when our roots go down. We must also be "stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught," Our faith must be established, it must be rooted in our lives. We can't say we have faith in Jesus, but live our lives as we did before Christ. As we grow, as we get into the Word, as we become part of the local church, this is how we become established in the faith. This is where we are taught the things of God. What have you established yourself in? Is it in Christ, or is it in sin?

Finally, the end of verse 7 says, "abounding therein with thanksgiving." Thanksgiving is not just a holiday where we stuff ourselves with the bountiful food on the table. Thanksgiving is something that should be part of our daily life. I saw a saying on Facebook the other day that said something like, "What if you woke up today with only the things your thanked God for yesterday?" What would you have if this happened? Spend time each day, thanking God for what He has provided you. Friends, how are you walking today? Are you walking in Christ, being rooted and built up in Him, becoming established in your faith, and living a life full of thankfulness for the blessings of God? Think About It.
