Who's Your Master?

7 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. 9 Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life[a] is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.
-First John 3:7-9 (NLT)

The past week, we've been studying in the book of First John. These verses, in chapter 3 need to be taken seriously. I really think that there is an epidemic in churches today. The epidemic is this: Too many Christians still live in the world. What I mean by that is we still live like we are controlled by the devil. An no one talks against this kind of lifestyle. Look at verse 8, "But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil," When we continue in a life of sin, we show who our true master is: the devil. How? John makes it clear, in this verse, that if we continue living a life of sin, we belong to the devil. Sin is the works of the devil, and if we continue in sin, then the devil's work is being completed in us. Look at the rest of verse 8, "But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil." Jesus, the Son of God, came to destroy the devil's work. He came to destroy sin. Has He destroyed sin in your life? Who's your master? Think About It.
