Why Worry?
6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
Do you worry? How many of us don't worry about something. Whether it be a sick family member or friend, or finances or job situations, many of us deal with worry on a daily, or sometimes hourly or minute by minute, basis. Worry can rob us of things like joy and peace, we'll talk about that in a minute. In Philippians 4, Paul provides for us a way to keep worry at bay. Are you ready to put worry in it's place?
Verse 6 says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." In saying "Be careful for nothing:" Paul is telling us not to worry. Oftentimes our worries come out of things we really can't control. We are careful around the boss not to say the wrong thing. We're careful around a family member who may be struggling with something, so we watch what we say. All these things are worry creators, and all these things draw us away from God. Paul says don't worry about anything. Instead, "but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Take those requests to God. Take the things that cause anxiety, stress and worry in your life to God. Notice the words "in every thing." This means just what it says. In every thing-every situation, every need, every worry, every lost job, every thing. Don't worry, but in every situation let your needs be known to God. When you give your worries and anxieties to God, something happens.
Verse 7 says, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." When you give your worries to God, the peace of God takes over. His peace comes down and calms the waters of life. And his peace shall guard our hearts and minds. The peace of God shall keep our hearts and minds focused on Him, rather than on our circumstances and situations. Have you given your worries to God? Have you allowed the peace of God to rule in your life? Think About It.
