18Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
20And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
-First Corinthians 3:18-20 (KJV)
Yesterday, we started studying these passages, and discussed how if we want true wisdom, we must not base that wisdom on the things of this world. Instead, we must base our wisdom in the things of God. Then, and only then, are we truly wise. The world looks at this type of wisdom as "foolishness," but with God, it is power.
Verse 19 says, "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness." The wisdom of man is foolishness to God. I said this yesterday, and I think it bears repeating. In the wisdom of man, they try to prove that God doesn't exist. It's "foolishness" to think that there is some kind of "divine power." For the most part, people don't want to take control out of their hands. So what did man do? They created the Big Bang Theory. The whole universe was made by a cosmic accident, and here we are billions and billions of years later. Yeah, right. I think God things this is foolishness. Man thinks that the wisdom of God is foolishness, God thinks the wisdom of man is foolishness. Paul writes in Galatians 5:17, "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." You see this principle here in this verse. As a Christian, you want to be spiritual, you want to do the things of God. Yet, another part of you wants to do what pleases you, what you want to do. The forces of good and evil battle in each one of us each day. Which is going to win out? The Spirit or the sin nature? How can you remedy this battle? Galatians 5:16 has the answer. "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." If you are going to live in the wisdom of God, then you must walk with God. By walking where the Spirit guides, you'll stay away from the evil desires of the sin nature. You'll walk in the wisdom of God.
Are you tired of walking in the wisdom of the world? Are you tired of the foolishness that is going on around you? It's time to start walking in the Spirit, and walking in the wisdom of God. Paul writes in First Corinthians 1:26-27, "For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;" These are some sad verses, but exciting ones at the same time. Why? They teach us that those who think they are wise don't answer the call of God in their lives. Why? Because they put more faith in their knowledge instead of in the wisdom of God. Many, many people only believe what they see. None of us has ever seen God, yet we see Him all around us, in His creation. Scripture teaches us, here, that God has chosen the "foolish things of the world." Those who the world considers foolish, are the ones who answer the call of God. Have you answered the call of God? Are you walking in the wisdom of God? Think About It.
