Send Me!

8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
-Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

This verse struck me the other day, actually several days ago. I knew it was one I had to blog about, but really didn't know how. We have Isaiah seeing the very throne room of God in Heaven. We read in verse 5, "Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." Isaiah thought he was doomed, because he saw God, the Creator of all things. Look, though, at how he described himself and his people. "I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips." This verse signifies two things. First, Isaiah knew of his sin. He knew that God cannot stand sin. James writes  "Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.  And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! (James 3:9-10 NLT)." We, too, are of unclean lips. How can we praise God, and talk about our neighbor or coworker at the same time? We can't do it. Isaiah knew he was a man of sinful lips. That fact brought sorrow to him.  Second, Isaiah knew he lived among sinful people. Not only was Isaiah sorrowful for his sinful lips, but that he lived among people that were also sinners. Think about this: We, as Christians, are not doing what God has called us to do, that is why we live among people of sin. Maybe that is what brought sorrow to Isaiah as he stood before God. He was a prophet, and maybe didn't take the Word of the Lord to the people as he should have. Can we be guilty of the same exact thing? Have we taken the message of the Lord to those around us? Or have we tried to hide the message and blend into the culture around us so that people don't look at us differently?

Then, in verse 8 we read God saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?  Then said I, Here am I; send me." Isaiah is renewed in his mission, in his calling of God for his life. God is looking for a messenger, and Isaiah is ready to go. Is God calling you to take His message to the world? Are you ready to respond as Isaiah did? Jesus said, in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." This is the command of Jesus for the disciples, and I believe it is for us as well. We must go and share Jesus with others. We live in the midst of a sinful people, and they need Jesus. Someone shared the Gospel with you, are you sharing the Gospel with others? Think About It.
