12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
-Colossians 1:12-14 (NLT)
Do you want a reason to be thankful? The topic of thankfulness and thanksgiving is one we need to look at. Paul says at the beginning of verse 12, "always thanking the Father." Thanksgiving should always be at the forefront of our speech. Yet, in a world like ours, sometimes it's hard to do. We tend to dwell on the negative, on the bad things that happen in life, and forget about the good things, the way God has blessed us. We are tuned to the negative. Negativity is all around us. You watch any newscast and it's all doom and gloom. Where is the good news? Paul teaches us that we need to always be "thanking the Father." Do you need help with that? Verses 12-14 teach us some things to be thankful for. There are three things, specifically, that Paul tells us about. For the next few days, we'll look at each one.
"He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light." Through Jesus, we have an inheritance in Heaven. We have something better waiting for us. Negativity will not be there, neither will the problems of life. Through Jesus, we have an inheritance that is greater than anything we can ever imagine. Peter writes this about our inheritance "and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. (1 Peter 1:4). Look at how he describes this inheritance: Priceless, pure, undefiled, beyond reach of change and decay. These are awesome promises about our future. Our inheritance is pure and undefiled. We currently lie in a sin infested and a sin defiled world. Our inheritance is pure, not infiltrated with sin. Isn't that awesome? Be thankful, today, for the inheritance God has for those who follow Jesus. Think About It.
