10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
-First Corinthians 1:10 (KJV)
Think About This: What if everyone who has a relationship with Jesus Christ, would be truly unified. Speaking the same message, not divided, but of the same mind and teaching. If what we see in Christian groups on Facebook, this kind of unification is far apart.
Verses 11-12 of First Corinthians 1 says, "11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ." Paul had heard that there was divisions in the church. People were following the teachings of various teachers. Some claimed to be followers of Paul. Others, followers of Peter. Others, followers of Christ. But Paul's teachings pointed to Jesus. Peter's teachings pointed to Christ. Yet, the believers failed to see that point. Today, there are people who hold true to the teachings of John Wesley (founder of the Methodist Church). Others hold true to the teachings of John Smyth (founder of the Baptist Church). There are countless others. What did each of these men have in common? Their teachings pointed to Christ. People say, "I'm a Southern Baptist, the Methodist teaching is wrong: Here is why." There is division in the church, even today. Paul says in verse 13, " Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?" Is Christ divided? No. What message do we, as the church, send out to a lost and hurting world in need of a Savior? Do we send the message of Jesus? Think About It.
