27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
-John 14:27 (KJV)
Our world is in distress. We are constantly in the midst of trials and temptations. How can I, as a Christian keep following Jesus, in spite of what is going on around me? You've probably asked yourself that question many times. I believe John 14:27 offers the key.
Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." In John 14, Jesus is giving His disciples some last minute teachings. It was just prior to His crucifixion, and He was teaching them about Heaven, the Father and about keeping His words. He also promised them the Comforter, of the Holy Spirit. This may have troubled the disciples. They left all they had to follow Him, now a few short years later, and He's talking about leaving them. It may have been a blow right in their stomach. But, look at what Jesus tells them, in verse 27. He's promising them peace. Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:" Jesus is promising more than just peace, He's promising them His peace. If they, the disciples, would hold on to that peace, then their hearts would not be troubled, and they would not be afraid.
Friends, that peace is still offered to us today. We allow our hearts to be troubled out of fear of the unknown. But Jesus knows what your tomorrow will hold. Jesus is wanting to give you peace, not just any peace, but His peace. Take His peace, and don't be afraid, and don't be troubled. Think About It.
