What's Our Mission?

31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
-John 20:31 (KJV)

Why did John write his account of the life and works of Jesus? The short answer would be that he was inspired to do so by the Holy Spirit. I think this points to what God expects of us, even today. Let me explain.

John understood what he must do as a child of God. He knew that he must share the Gospel. Tradition says that John was banished to the island of Patmos because he refused to stop preaching about, and telling others about Jesus. In John 20:31, I think we see the reason behind his account of Jesus Christ. "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." These things, the things John was inspired to write about, were written so that you and I might believe that Jesus is the Messiah, and that we would have life, everlasting life, through Jesus. That was the mission of John, to see people saved through the blood of Jesus. Is that our mission as well?

Matthew 28:19-20 says, "19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Jesus told us to "Go" we are told to go and teach all nations. Teach them the things Jesus has commanded us to do. Teaching them that Jesus is the Messiah, and that there is life through His name. A big problem I see is that so many of us has the "church" mentality. Jesus told us to go, but the church says "come here." We rely on "programs" at church to win people to Jesus, that we, His followers, think that we are teaching all nations the things of Jesus by inviting them to one of our "programs." Are "programs" the answer to a world that is lost and separated from God? No, it's not. The answer for a world that is lost and separated from God is Jesus. We have that answer. The question is, are we taking it out into the lost world? Are you telling people the life saving, life changing message of Jesus? Think About It.
