12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
-John 8:12 (KJV)
When you study the Gospel of John, and even the letters of First, Second and Third John, you come to know and understand that light always equals life and darkness always equals sin. Just like darkness and light cannot coexist in the same room, eternal life and sin cannot coexist in the same life.
Jesus says in John 8:12, "I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." What are some things that light does for us. 1. It makes things grow. If you look at plants and trees, they always grow in the direction of the light they receive. As Christians, are we growing toward the direction of Jesus? 2. Light illuminates what is around us. When you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, without turning on the light, you'll stub your toe on your bedpost. Through Jesus, the things of our life are illuminated so that we can see what will cause us to stumble in our walk with Him.
Jesus said that He is the light, and those of us who follow Him shall not walk in darkness. What does He mean by that? I believe it means that we will not walk in sin. I believe it means that the path Jesus intends for us to walk on will be illuminated, so that we can grow into the person He wants us to be. Are you walking in the light of Jesus, or struggling to find you way in the darkness of sin? Think About It.
