Is Your Life An Act?

You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
-Second Timothy 3:1-5 (NLT)

Let me start out today's reading by asking the question first. Is the way you live your life an act? Paul, in describing how people will be in the last days, says in verse 5, "They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" People everywhere puts up some kind of facade, a false front on their lives. Some people act and look the part of being wealthy. Others act and look the part of being highly educated. We can even put the false front of our lives being right with God as well.

Paul says, in verse 1, "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times." We're living in those last days, I believe, right now. He then goes on, in verses 2-4 what will be the characteristics of people. How many people, today-right this minute, are in love with themselves and their money? How many people, today-right this minute, are boastful and proud? How many families are broken apart, today-right this minute, because people are unloving and unforgiving? These are some of the characteristics that Paul uses, among others, to describe how difficult the last days will be. You can act religious all you want, but if any of the characteristics of verses 2-4 are found in your life, then your religious act is just that, an act. Let me ask the question again, Is the way you live your life an act? You may fool others, but you will not fool God. Think About It.
