The Peace of Jesus

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
-John 14:27 (KJV)

This verse has a special place in my heart. Why? Because it was the verse that my very first sermon centered around. Every time I read that verse, the thoughts of preaching that first sermon come to mind. It's been almost 20 years since that first preaching experience, but this verse continually shows me something new each time I look at it.

Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Troubles and fear-that is what the world has to offer. Troubles and fear go hand in hand. In our world, we are fearful and troubled by world events, national events, work related events, fearful of illness, fearful that we will lose everything we have. Yet, Jesus promises us more. He promises us peace. Did you ever notice that when you just say the word "peace" that a sense of calming comes over you? Well, it does me anyway. Jesus promised us peace. Not just any peace, but His peace.

Is the troubles and fears of the world bringing you down? Jesus promises us peace. But that promise is only to them who have given their lives to Jesus. Do you have His peace today? Think About It.
