21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
-John 17:21-23 (KJV)
A couple days ago, I wrote about how Jesus prayed for those that believe on Him through the witnessing of the disciples. Today, let's dig in and see what He prayed for us.
Verses 21-23 of John 17 teach us that Jesus prayed for our unity. He prayed for the unity of those who believe on Him through the witnessing of the disciples. Verse 21 says, "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." Look at the words of Jesus here, as they are stunning. He is praying that all those who believe on Jesus through the disciples witnessing, may be one. May be unified. Why is unity so important? The end of verse 21 says, "that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." The world sees Jesus in those that claim to be His. Does the world see unity in the body of Christ today? Does your town see unity in your church today? It would seem to me that this prayer of Jesus is not coming true today. Think About It.
