Doubtful Mind?

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things
-Luke 12:28-30 (KJV)

Do you have a doubtful mind? I think it is prevalent in many of us. We make claims that we love and trust God. But, when that love and trust is put to the test, do your claims hold true? That, I believe, is the idea behind the words of Jesus in Luke 12.

Verses 28-29 says, "If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind." There are two phrases I want us to focus on this day. The first is "O ye of little faith." As I've studied the gospels, I've noticed this phrase used many times. We can claim to have a strong faith, but do we really? Jesus says that God clothes the grass, even though it is temporary. Since God clothes the grass, will He not clothe you as well? We may say "Yes! He Will!" But, if we are put in a situation where all we have is God, will we still make that claim? Is your faith strong enough to hold on? The second phrase is, "neither be ye of doubtful mind." Jesus says we should not seek what we shall eat or drink. Then he ends the sentence with "neither be ye of doubtful mind." Don't doubt that God is faithful. Why? verse 30 has the answer. "For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things." Why should we not have a doubtful mind? Because God knows we need things like clothes, food and drink. The nations of the world chase after these things, because they have a doubtful mind towards God. For us, as Christians, we should have the faith to know that God will meet our needs.

Do you suffer from a doubtful mind? Do you trust that God will meet your needs, or do you, like the nations of this world, chase after those things? Think About It.
