The Peace of God

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

This week, we're studying about the battle for our minds. Today, I want us to focus our attention on Philippians 4:6-7, as Paul is giving us an important principle that we need to look at.

Verse 6 says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." When Paul is saying "be careful for nothing," he is basically telling us not to worry about things. It's easy to become worried about things, especially with the way things are in our world today. Worry takes our minds off of the things of God, and onto our problems and concerns. If you've spent any time studying the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul, you will see that, even in the most dire of circumstances, he always sang his praises to God. How could he do that? "but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." His life was shaped by prayer. When you give your problems, your requests to God, you exchange your problems with something.

Verse 7 says, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." When you give your problems to God, you will receive His peace. We'll study more about peace next week. Think about that. Give your problems, your worry's to Him, and in exchange, He will give you peace. Not just any peace, but the peace of God. Look what Paul says about this peace and what it does. "which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." The peace of God exceeds anything you or I can imagine. How else can you explain how Paul could praise God in the midst of trials and troubles? And the peace of God guards our hearts and minds as we live in Jesus.

If you want your mind to be set on Jesus, then you must not allow the things of life to get in the way. What is in the way of you receiving the peace of God? Think About It.
