2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
-Colossians 3:2-3 (KJV)
We've talked about the battle for our minds all this week. I think the best way to end that study is to look at how we can keep our minds lined up with God. I think Paul answers that in Colossians 3:2.
Verse 2 says, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Do you want your focus to be on the things of God? Then set your mind to those things. Set your mind to the things that God has called you to. Where your mind is set to is where you affections will be. If it's set on the things above, then your mind will be set on the things of God. If it's set on the things on the earth, then your mind will be set on the things of our world. It's an easy principle to see.
Verse 3 tells us why we must set our mind on the things of God. "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." We must keep our minds set on the things of God, because we are "dead" to the world of sin around us. As Christians, as those who have given their lives to God through the sacrifice of Jesus, we are no longer living in sin, so why should our thought patterns reflect the life we once lived? It shouldn't be that way. So, if we take our minds off our old life of sin, we must focus our mind on the things of God.
Where is your focus today? Is it on your situations, circumstances or on the past life of sin? If so, then you need to have your focus shifted onto the things of God. Think About It.
