It's Your Choice

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
-Romans 6:12 (King James Version)

Did you know that each day you have choices? Of course you did, that goes without saying. Our choices affect the course of our day. The choices you make right now will affect the choices you make later in the day. Yet, there is one area in life where many people think they don't have any choices. That is the choice to sin. Often times, when caught in sin, we blame someone or something else for our sin. The fact is, though, we make the choice each day whether we are going to follow sin or follow Jesus.

Paul writes in Romans 6:12, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof." Paul's statement, here, is straightforward. We make the choice each day, hour by hour, minute by minute, if we are going to give in to sin, or live for God. Sin is something we've inherited. You don't have to teach someone how to sin. It comes natural. Paul says we should not let sin reign in our bodies. The word "reign" means "to rule as king or queen (just Google the word reign and you'll see it)." The Queen of England rules over the country of England, she reigns over the country. What she says goes, and the people obey her word. As far as England goes, there is no higher authority in the government than the Queen. For each of us, sin wants to be that higher authority in our lives.

What "reigns" in your life? Are you giving in to sin, and allowing your flesh to dictate what goes? Or, are you faithfully following Jesus, and giving Him "reign" in your life? Think About It.
