Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
-Psalm 73:25-26 (King James Version)
These words of David show how much he truly loved God. He had a desire for God, a burning desire. How strong of a desire for God do you have?
He says, in verse 25, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon the earth that I desire beside thee." The writer is saying, here, that he has no one anywhere, either in Heaven, or here on earth, that he desires more. What devotion. In our world today, we desire the "things" instead of the Creator. We value "things" more than we value God. David says that there is nothing, in Heaven or on earth, that he desires more than God. I'm sure if I asked you what you desire, you'd have a laundry list of things. Hopefully more of God would fill the top spot.
He goes on, in verse 26, "My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever." We will fail. Our flesh desires things against God. Paul wrote about that in Galatians 6. Our heart will fail us because our heart is flighty. That is why Jesus said, in Matthew 6, that where your heart is, that is where your treasure is as well. You can say that God has the top spot in your life, but your heart reveals what's truly there.
How strong is your desire for God today? Is it strong enough to cause you to open His Word, and read His love message to you? Think About It.
