Pray For Our Leaders

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
-First Timothy 2:1-6 (King James Version)

What's your prayer life like? Is your prayers full of "God give me this" or "God give me that?" In these verses, Paul is teaching Timothy a valuable lesson.

He says, in verse 1, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men." The point, I believe, Paul is making is that we must pray for others. We need to pray for the needs of others, we need to pray for God's wisdom in their lives, we must praise God and give thanks for others and how God is working in their lives. He goes on, in verse 2, "For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." First, we must pray for all men, but specifically, we must pray for those in authority. That includes people like our nations President and other government officials, no matter their party, no matter their religion. We must pray for them. Why? So that we may life a quiet, peaceable life, an honest life in godliness.

As we close out this week, and head into Resurrection Sunday, take time to thank God for the work He's doing around the world, but also take time to pray for our leaders. Both inside and outside the church. On Monday, we'll look at some other key things in these verses, but for now, commit to pray for others, pray for our nation, pray for our leaders. Think About It.
