God's Discipline

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
-Proverbs 3:11-12 (King James Version)

OK, show of hands here: How many of us really enjoy correction? I doubt anyone actually raised their hands in answer to that. None of us enjoy it. Maybe it's because when we receive correction, it shows we were wrong, it shows we don't have the wisdom we claim to have. We end up looking looking foolish in front of others. Why, or how, has correction become a negative. If you're truly wrong about something, don't you really want to know how something is right? If you're still working, and if you're doing your job wrong, wouldn't you want to know how to do it right? Correction is actually a good thing.

The writer of Proverbs 3 says, in verse 11, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:" Too often, we do despise the correction of God, we do despise the discipline of God. We look at it as a negative, something to be avoided. But, verse 12 teaches us why it's positive. "For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth." If God is disciplining you, if God is correcting you, it's because He loves you! God corrects you because of His great love for you.

So, if God is correcting you, if God is disciplining you, accept it, and learn from what He's trying to teach you. Don't run from it, don't ignore it. After all, God loves you and only wants what's best for you. Think About It.
