Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
-John 14:23-24 (King James Version)
We talked yesterday about our spiritual diets. We read that we don't live just by bread, but by the Word of God. Friends, we must feed our spirit, we must feed our spirit the nourishment from the Bible. We must feed our spirit the Word of God. Anything less, and our spirit will be malnourished and our faith will be weak and non existent.
Jesus, in teaching His disciples just before His betrayal taught them about the importance of His teachings. Numerous times in John 14 alone, we read Jesus telling them to keep His commandments. It's by keeping His commandments that we prove our relationship with Him. John 14:23 says, "Jesus answered and said unto them, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." We get the nourishment our Spirit needs when we keep the words of Jesus, keep His commandments. Look at what happens: Jesus will make His abode with us when we keep His words. An abode simple means a place in which one lives. Jesus will live in us, giving our spirit the nourishment it needs to develop a great and strong faith.
But, while verse 23 provides a great promise, verse 24 gives a warning, "He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me." We prove our love by keeping the commands of Jesus. This results in Jesus living in us. When we don't keep His commands, we prove that we really don't love Jesus. Do you show your love for Jesus by keeping His commands? Think About It.
