You Can Overcome This World

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
-Colossians 3:15-16 (King James Version)

As I was browsing through my news feed on Facebook, I came across a picture that had a portion of Colossians 3:16 on it. I looked up the verse and found that it really ministered to me. Then I read the rest of Colossians 3. And found a lot more verses that ministered to me. The rest of the week, I want us to focus on some important principles from Colossians 3.

Let's start at verse 15. "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." We need to allow the peace of God to rule our hearts. What's Paul mean by that? You don't need me to tell you that our world is in trouble. It seems as though we are going further and further away from the Word of God. We worry about things like our finances, our jobs, our homes. All we have, all our savings, all our 401(k) money can be wiped out in a matter of minutes. People doing nothing more than watching a marathon race can be attacked by cowards who plant bombs. What is this world coming to?

Jesus taught His disciples about His death, His betrayal, and what would happen to them. He said, in John 16:33, " These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." The only true peace we can have is in Jesus. When we abide with Him, we will have peace. Look at what he has to say. "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." In the world, we will have troubles. We will have trials. We will have temptations. We will have strife. But in Jesus, we have peace. Through His death on the cross, and His resurrection from the grave, Jesus has overcome the world, it's trials, it's troubles, it's temptations! We read this in First John 5:5, "Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" We, too, can overcome the trials, the troubles, the strife and the temptations this world has to offer, but only when we abide in Jesus. Jesus has overcome the world.

Is the things of this world getting you down? Why not shift your focus to Jesus, and allow His peace to rule your heart. Think About It.
