Does Yours?

6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
-John 1:6-8 (KJV)

Do you ever stop and think about the impact your life has on others? People are either drawn toward you, or drawn away from you. Whether you know it or not, you influence others. How are you influencing them. Can other see Jesus in you? In other words, are you drawing others to Jesus, or drawing them away from Jesus?

John 1:6 says, "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John." This is referring to John the Baptist.  Verse 7 says, "The same came for a witness, to bear witness to the Light, that all men through him might believe." John was sent as a witness. He was sent to tell others about Jesus. John told others about the Light (Jesus). He pointed the way to Jesus, so that others might believe that Jesus is the Messiah and be saved. John was drawing people to Jesus. He was drawing people into a relationship with Jesus. That is the essence of what witnessing is all about. Many churches have outreach programs or witnessing teams who go out and share their faith with others. That is essentially what John did. He had faith in God, and shared that faith with others. You might be saying, "That is great for John, but witnessing isn't for me."

Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20, "19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."Jesus is, of course, speaking with the disciples here. But, if they were the only ones who went out and taught all nations, teaching them the things Jesus commanded, then where would we be? Disciples of Jesus throughout the last 2000 years have been teaching all nations the things Jesus taught. We may not have seen first hand the miracles that Jesus did, but we are witnesses through the records found in the Bible. That is what you and I put our faith in, and that is what we must share with others.

John was sent from God to be a witness of Jesus. His testimony drew others to Jesus. Does yours? Think About It.
