Judge Yourself First

Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
-Matthew 7:1-5 (KJV)

A good friend of mine on Facebook shared an article someone had written about judging others. I think that we, as Christians, focus to much on judging the actions and life of others. Were we called to judge? I don't think so. We were, however, called to teach all nations the things that Jesus commanded us (Matthew 28:19-20). So, if we are going to judge others, we first must judge ourselves. That's the idea behind the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:1-5.

Verse 2 says, "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." The standards we use to judge others will be used on us. Verse 5 says,"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." How can we judge others, when we ourselves have faults of our own? We can't judge someone else without first judging ourselves.

Too many of us like to point out the faults in others, that way we can take the focus off of our sin and point the focus on another's sin. Before judging others, make sure you have nothing hidden. Think About It.
