If you watch the local evening news broadcast, or pick up and read the daily newspaper, you know what a sad state our world is in. I'm going to take that comment one step further and say that you know what a sad state our churches are in today. Most people look at going to church in two ways. Either they go because their granddaddy went to that church and you should be in church on Sunday morning, or they go to church to worship God, and to grow in their faith and relationship with Him. I have to ask, which camp do you fall into?
For the former, most of them look at church, not as a time to worship God, but as a time to visit friends and family. While building positive, lasting relationships with the people you attend church with is not wrong, it becomes wrong when those relationships become little "cliques" that keep people that need to hear the truth out. That is where it becomes wrong. We read about this in Romans 3:18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes." This short verse packs a punch.
If you listened to last nights broadcast of Talkin' Scripture, we talked on the topic "God Did Not Give Us A Spirit Of Fear." The fear that we talked about last ngiht, and the fear that is found in Romans 3:18 are two different things. The fear we talked about during Talkin' Scripture is the type of fear that keeps you from doing things. For instance, if you are afraid of heights, that fear would keep you from traveling in an airplane. That is not the type of fear that Romans 3:18. The type of fear that we should have of God is one of awe, of reverence, In other words, we should hold the name of God in a place of honor. The name of God should be above every name, and should be held in high regard. All to often, though, it is placed below everything else. We worry more about what someone is wearing, or singing, or whatever, that we don't give God the praise He deserves.
As Christians, we need to have a fear of God-we need to put God above all else. Only by doing that can the rest of our lives "fall into place." Think about it.
