The other day, I was reviewing notes and outlines for my Talkin' Scripture broadcast, and I was looking at John 14. One of the points that I was making in the broadcast was that we show proof of our salvation by following the commands that Jesus taught. In fact in John 14, we find 3 different spots where Jesus tells us that if we love Him, we'll keep His commands (14:15, 21, 23). For many of us, keeping the commands of Jesus seems impossible. Let's explore.
Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.John 14:23
Jesus said that we show our love for Him by keeping the commandments He taught. He makes it more personal in verse 21 where He says that we not only have to know his commands, but we need to keep them. There is a difference. For instance, if I know the speed limit on a particular road is 30 miles per hour, and I drive 60 miles per hour, I'm not keeping the speed limit. Likewise, if we know that Jesus said we should not steal, and we steal a candy bar at a store, we are not keeping His commands.
Friends, we show our love for Jesus by doing the things He said to do. Think about it. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
