What Is The Cross To You?

18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
-First Corinthians 1:18 (KJV)

The cross. The place where Jesus paid the penalty for your sins and mine. The cross. It's dirty, it's messy, it's blood soaked. Sin is messy, sin is dirty, and sin must be paid for by blood. Even the very first sin, when Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree, was paid for by the blood of the animal that was killed to make garments for them (Genesis 3:21). The cross is either loved and embraced, or it's mocked and an object of ridicule. What is it for you?

Paul said that "the preaching of the cross to them that perish is foolishness;" For the person still living in their sins, the cross is nothing but foolishness. Foolishness means, "lacking or exhibiting a lack of good sense or judgement, or resulting from stupidity or misinformation, unwise.* Someone who is looking at the cross as foolishness is lacking good sense and unwise. The cross is the one and only place where we get forgiveness. The flip side of this verse is "but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God." For us who are saved, the cross is the power of God. It's the place where we find forgiveness for our sins, it is the place where we become right with God.

What is the cross to you? Is it nothing but a foolish story? Or is it the place where you've been made right with God? Think About It.
