Thankful For Our Rescue

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,
-Colossians 1:13 (NLT)

Yesterday, we started studying Colossians 1:12-14, in which Paul gives us three things to be thankful for. Today, we should be thankful for our rescue from sin. Let's look.

At one time, we lived in spiritual darkness. This means that we lived in sin. For the Christian, we are rescued from that life of sin, from the darkness, when you put your faith in Jesus, when you've given Him your life. Think about the practical life for a minute, this will help put this into perspective. When you get up in the middle of the night, you try to find your way through a dark room. You stumble, you step on things that cause pain, you stub your toe. You can't see where you're going, so you feel around for things to guide you. On the other hand, when you turn on the lights, the darkened room becomes lighted and you can clearly see where you're going.  To walk in spiritual darkness means you stumble, stub your toe and trip over things because you can't see what will cause pain. But, when the light comes on, you see clearly and avoid the things that cause you to stumble. Sin is like the darkness. Sin causes pain, causes you to stumble. Jesus is the light, helping you to see clearly so you will not stumble. Does it make sense?

Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we have been rescued from the darkness of sin. Since we've been rescued from something, we must have been set on course for something else. The rest of that verse says, "and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son," We have been rescued from the life of sin, and transferred to the life of Life. Do you need something to be thankful for today? Be thankful that, if you've given your life to Christ, that you no longer live in darkness, but you live in the light of life. Think About It.
