I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.
7 Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.
By your mighty power you rescue
those who seek refuge from their enemies.
-Psalm 17:6-7 (NLT)
We've been studying Psalm 17:3-8 in parts, we'll finish it up this morning. We have seen how David knows that God has tested him and found no wrong in him. David reveals how he follows the commands of God and has stayed on the path God laid out. Today, I want to bring it all together. Let's dig in.
Verse 6 says, "I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray." David is now calling out to God. Look at his words in the first part of this verse. "I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God." David had an intimate relationship with God. God knew David, and David knew God. David had faith in God, he had a trust in God. David is praying to God because he knows God is there, and that God will answer his prayer. The false gods that others worship will never answer prayers, but God, the Creator of all that we see, is always ready to answer. The problem is, do we always wait for the answer to our prayers? More specifically, do we accept the answer God gives us, even if it's not what we want to hear? He goes on, "Bend down and listen as I pray." He is seeking God as he prays. Verse 7 says, "Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies." David is asking God to show him His love, God's unfailing love. How does God show His love? By rescuing those who seek refuge from their enemies. When you put your faith and trust in God, you will make enemies. Enemies with the devil for starters. God will protect you with is unfailing love.
Friends, this kind of intimacy with God comes only through a life lived for God. David enjoyed a closeness with God that comes only from being open in front of Him. Are you willing to lay your life open to God? Think About It.
