Are You Ashamed Of Jesus?

Romans 1:16  "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.


In our world today, sometimes it is a scary thought to say your a follower of Jesus. There are some parts of the world that you could lose your life for admitting your a follower of Jesus. In America, we don't have to fear anything like that. But sometimes we do have to fear rejection and other kinds of persecution. These words of Paul in Romans 1:16 challenge us in a very practical way. Are you ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?


For Paul, the answer is no. What about you? Paul wasn't ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. Why? Because it is the "power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth;" The Gospel of Jesus is our salvation. The Gospel of Jesus shows the power of God. It's through that gospel that we come to faith, which leads us to surrender our lives to Him. Do you know what the word "gospel" means? It simply means "good news." Indeed, the Gospel of Christ is good news. It's good news for us, because through that good news, I can attain eternal life. You can too. Part of Romans 1:16 teaches us that the Gospel is for everyone that believes. The good news is for EVERYONE. Are you willing to put your faith in that good news? If you are not willing to put your faith in that good news, then you are saying that you are indeed ashamed of the gospel. What a terrible thing you can do. Jesus has a warning for people who are ashamed of the gospel.


Luke 9:6 "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels." Jesus is saying that if you are ashamed of Him, He'll be ashamed of you. What a terrible thought. If Jesus is ashamed of you, that means that you will not inherit the salvation promised to those who are not ashamed of the gospel. So now, this begs a question. Are YOU ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
