Can It Be Any Plainer?

23 Jesus continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You belong to this world; I do not. 24 That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”
-John 8:23-24 (NLT)

Don't you just love it when people make things uncomplicated? When I was in college, I had a professor in accounting who just kept teaching and teaching and teaching, occasionally stopping only for a sip of diet coke. In all that teaching, he didn't really teach. We were left untaught in certain principles. I had another professor in an algebra course that took the time to explain ever aspect of algebra. We left with an understanding of algebra. Which professor helped us more. Of course it was the one who actually taught us.

The words of Jesus, in John 8:23-24, teach us of our need for a Savior, and that He is that Savior. "23 Jesus continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You belong to this world; I do not. 24 That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.” Unless we believe that Jesus is the Messiah, that He is who He said He is, we will die in our sins. It's kind of like the person drowning, to whom someone throws a life preserver. If the person drowning doesn't reach for the life preserver, they will drown. Even though the life preserver was present, if it goes unused in time of emergency, it will do nothing to save you. Jesus is our life preserver, but if you don't believe that He is, you will die in your sins. Could Jesus have made that any more easy to understand?
