Do You Want The Truth?

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
-2 Timothy 4:3-4 (KJV)

Yesterday, we looked at verses 1-2 of Second Timothy 4, where we discovered the importance of sharing the Word of God with others. Today, we'll see why.

Paul says, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." We read a few days ago that Scripture is profitable for doctrine (teaching). Doctrine is our core beliefs, the principles that shape our faith. Paul is teaching that a time is coming (and is here now) when people will not want to hear the truth. Instead, they will come up with their own teachers who will tell them what they want to hear. Paul says, in verse 4, "And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." People, today, are turning their ears away from the truth of God's Word. They have raised up teachers who tell them the things they want to hear. Preachers today are saying all sorts of false teachings that allow people to be comfortable in their own sins.

Do you want to hear the truth? Do you want to conform to this world, be be conformed to the person that God desires you to be? Are you going to listen to the truth of God's Word, or are you going to listen only to the things that make you feel good? Think About It.
