3 This is how we are sure that we have come to know Him: by keeping His commands. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” yet doesn't keep His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God is perfected.[a] This is how we know we are in Him: 6 The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.
-First John 2:3-6 (HCSB)
John has a way of challenging us believers. In today's reading, we are being challenged to know if we are walking with God, or not.
We read in verse 3, "This is how we are sure that we have come to know Him: by keeping His commands." John is basically saying "Ok, do you want assurance of your salvation? This is how to know: Do you keep the commands of Jesus?" It's a quick and easy test for us to take: Do you keep the commands of God? If you can't honestly answer "Yes," then you need to get things right with God. Verse 3 says, "The one who says, 'I have come to know Him,' yet doesn't keep His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." We are told, plainly, that the one who claims Jesus as their Savior, yet doesn't follow His commands, is a liar. If you claim Jesus as your Savior, you must follow His Word. Verse 6 says, "The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked." If you claim Jesus as your Savior, are you walking in the same way and manner that Jesus walked?
It's easy for us to say that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, but does the way you live your life back up that claim? Are you walking as Jesus walked? Are you keeping His commands? If not, then your walk & talk don't line up. Think About It.
