No Greater Joy

I was studying in the book of Third John as I was scheduling shows for Talkin' Scripture, and one single, simple verse screamed out at me. 3 John 4 reads like this, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." It's a simple, yet powerful verse. Let's take a look at it.

I kind of think this verse shows us a glimpse of the Father. Can God have any greater joy than when His children walk in truth? I don't think so. What, though, does he mean by truth? Well, we can go back to 2 John 4 which says, "I rejoiced greatly that I found thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father."  We have received command from the Father to walk in truth. That is found in the Gospel of John 14. There are at lease a few times that Jesus tells us that if we love him, we'll keep his commandments. Take a minute and look of John 14 and see that for yourself. Now, Jesus refers to himself as the truth (14:6). So we can accurately say that it brings God great joy when we, his children, walk in Jesus. This, my friends, points to the Holy Spirit. Notice, then, in verse 17, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth. Notice too, that the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because it neither sees him or knows him. But you, the Christian, the one who has given their lives to Christ, has the Spirit living in you. That is how you walk in the truth, through the power of the Holy Spirit, who is given to anyone who gives their lives to Christ.

Do you want to give joy to God this day? Then start walking in the truth. You can walk the way Jesus walked by giving your life to Christ, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you in the walk that God wants you to walk in. Think about it.
