YOU Speak From The Heart

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
-Matthew 12:34-37 (KJV)

34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.
-Matthew 12:34-37 (NLT)

Our words are powerful. They either prove the faith we claim, or they prove that the faith we claim doesn't exist in our lives. That, I think, is the point Jesus was giving here in Matthew 12:34-37.

Verse 34 says, "O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Our words proves the condition of our hearts. Jesus was speaking against the Pharisees, the religious leaders of His time. They had the appearance of being right with God, after all, they were the religious leaders. They said the right words, dressed the right way, but their hearts were as evil as sin. They didn't desire the things of God, rather they desired the praise and adoration of man. So, Jesus says to them, "how can ye, being evil, speak good things?" How can someone whose heart is still set on the things of the sin world speak good things, the things of God? They could not do it then, and we cannot do it now. Why? The rest of verse 34 says, "For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh." In other words, your speech reveals your heart. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, "
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." (NLT). If your treasure is set on the things of God, then your heart will be there as well. And you'll speak out of the good that is in your heart.

Where is your heart lined up with today? Is it on the things of God? Or, is it still lined up with the things of the sin nature? Think About It.
