How's Your Love?

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
-John 13:34-35 (King James Version)

Do we really love others the way we should? Love is what define's us as disciples of Jesus. Love is what we should be showing to one another. Do we?

Jesus said, in John 13:34, "A new commandment I  give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." Jesus is giving us a commandment here, and one we need to heed. He tells us to love others in the same way He has loved us. We need to mirror the love that He has for us, toward other people. Why? Verse 35 says, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if we have love one to another." Our claims of following Christ are proven and verified if we demonstrate love for others. Love for others is what define's us as disciples of Christ. Can others see that you're following Jesus by your love? Or is it proven otherwise by your lack of love.

Jesus teaches us, in John 15:12-14, "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." He is teaching us that there is no greater love than for someone to lay down their lives for their friends. Don't mistake what He's teaching here. We lay down our lives by putting aside our agenda, our wants, our needs, our desires to help someone in need, to do something for others. It can be as simple as picking up a few extra groceries for the family in need. It can be as complex as comforting someone who just lost a loved one.

Love is how we demonstrate our faith in Christ. Are we showing the same kind of love to others that Jesus showed to us? Think About It.
