9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
-First Thessalonians 5:9-10 (King James Version)
Some people view God as an angry man who delights in sending people to Hell. Is that true? Were you and I created just so we can spend eternity in Hell? I don't think so.
Paul writes in First Thessalonians 5:9, "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ." Paul is saying that God did not create us to suffer the wrath of God. It's because of our own doing that we suffer that wrath. Paul writes in Romans 5:12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." All of us are guilty of sin, we are guilty of breaking the law of God. The law God gave to Adam was not to eat the fruit of a specific tree in the Garden. What did they do? Ate from the forbidden tree. Because they broke the law, they sinned, and suffered the wrath of God. Was Adam and Eve created to suffer wrath? No. They were created to have fellowship with God. They were created to worship God. But, because of sin, that fellowship was cut off. Sin is what separates us from God. God didn't appoint us to wrath, just like He didn't appoint Adam and Eve to wrath. Instead, the rest of verse 9 says, "but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ." We were not created to suffer wrath. Rather we were appointed to obtain salvation through Jesus. This proves the love that God has for you and me, in that He provided a way to restore that fellowship. He provided Jesus so that we can be forgiven for our sins. Amen!
Paul writes in Romans 5:15, "But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many." Just like sin and death entered by Adam, forgiveness and life entered through Jesus. Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Have you had that right fellowship with God restored? Think About It.
