What Are You Feeding?

I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.
-John 17:14-18 (New Living Translation)

Did you know that the wold hates us, hates us as Christians? In these verses, I think Jesus was most likely talking about the world of sin, the lifestyle you and I followed at one time. We also talked about how it would probably be better for us if, at the moment of salvation, we were just taken right home to be with Jesus. Jesus talks about that in verse 15.

"I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one." If we were taken out of the world at the moment of salvation, then who would carry on the message? That's why we must remain here, in the fallen world of sin. Jesus, in His prayer, isn't asking for God to take us out, but rather to keep us safe from satan. You see, at that moment of salvation, we turn from a life controlled by satan to a life submitted to God. Make no mistake about this, satan is not happy about that, and he wants us back. There is a war going on inside each one of us. It's a war of epic proportions. It's a war between right and wrong, a war between God and satan. Who will win depends on where your heart is truly at. Have you truly submitted your whole, entire life to God, and are following in His path? Or, are you trying to walk the fence, and follow God on Sunday, and live for yourself the rest of the week?

I remember reading a story years ago about two Indians, one a grandfather and the other the grandson. They were talking about life, and the struggles of it. The grandfather told the son that it's like two dogs are fighting inside of you. The grandson asked which one would win. The grandfather replied, "The one you feed will win." What are you feeding in your life? Are you feeding your life the things of God? Or are you feeding your life the things of hell? Think About It.
