And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—
-2 Peter 3:15 (New Living Translation)
Many, many people has tried to predict the second coming of Jesus. I've read stories of people who quit jobs and sold houses and possessions on a certain date because they felt that was the day for the second coming. Then nothing happened. Then another preacher comes along and offers a different date. And the cycle happens all over again. Then, people begin to say things like, "There will be no second coming. It's just a hoax." And those types of comments lead people astray from the true teaching. Buy, when we look around at our world today, one would beg the question, "Why hasn't Jesus returned?"
I believe the answer to that is found in the first part of Second Peter 3:15. "And remember, our Lord's patience gives people time to be saved." We see a picture of the love of God for us in this verse. Jesus hasn't returned because God wants everyone to be saved. If we back up to verses 9-10, we read, "The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment." God loves you so much, that He is giving you time to be saved. This doesn't mean that you should go on living for yourself, ignoring the grace of God. Instead, it means that you need to be saved, because the grace period will one day end. Look at what Peter says, "No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief."
God's desire is for all people to repent of their sin. Right now, He's patiently waiting for that to happen. But one day, that time will run out. Are you ready? Think About It.
