Preach The Word

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
-Second Timothy 4:1-4 (King James Version)

We talked yesterday about rejecting the truth of the Word of God, and the acceptance of false teachings, myths and fables as the new truth. This seems so prevalent in our society today. We want people to be honest, but when they are, the truth offends us. Of course the truth offends, because when we hear the truth, it means we need correcting.

Paul is giving us a charge, a command if you will. Verse 2 says "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." Paul's command to Timothy, and since it's in the Bible I believe it is a command for us as well, is simple. Preach the word. Preach what God has put into His Word. Preach it when the time is right (in season), and when the time isn't right (out of season). We are to preach the Word whether the situation is good or bad. We are to use the word to reprove (correct), rebuke (reprimand), exhort (teach). We are to do these things patiently, using the doctrine found in Scripture to correct, to reprimand and to correct.

Are you preaching the Word of God in your life. You preach a sermon each and every day of your life. You may not actually say words, but your actions and attitudes preach for you. Do they, your actions and attitudes, line up with the Word of God? Think About It.
