And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
-Matthew 17:16, 20 (King James Version)
How strong is your faith in Jesus? Faith is one topic that I write about the most. I think the reason why I write about faith so much is found in Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Without faith, I can't please God. Why? Because we must believe that God exists. That is where faith comes into play. I can say that I believe that God exists, but it's the way I live my life that proves it. A lack of faith means that I really don't believe in God.
In Matthew 17, the disciples are trying to cast a demon out of a young boy. We read, in verse 16, "And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him." The disciples, the very one who Jesus called, could not do the things they saw Jesus do. They've seen Jesus cast out demons, but they could not. They asked Jesus why they could not cast out that demon. His reply was probably humbling to them. We read, in verse 17, "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." I'm going to go into more detail about these passages on this weeks Talkin' Scripture broadcast. But for now, the reason the disciples could not cast out the demon was unbelief. Unbelief is a lack of faith. They didn't really believe in Jesus.
So, as you start this new day and week, how is your faith. Does the way you live your life prove your faith in God? Or, does your unbelief prove your lack of faith? Think About It.
