4 What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you?2 You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.
-James 4:1-3 (HCSB)
A couple of days ago, I asked the question: Who are we fighting? Is our battle with other people, or with the evilness that surrounds us? in that article, I wrote that our battle is with the kingdom of satan. James writes about this very topic.
James 4:1 says, "What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don't they come from the cravings that are at war within you?" James is asking a relevant question for us today. What is the source of the fights and wars among us? He then answers the question with a startling answer. "Don't they come from the cravings that are at war within you?" In other words, the fights and wars in our lives come from us. He goes on, in verse 2, "You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. you do not have because you do not ask." Our desires to have, our cravings for more and more and more cause the fights in our lives. It's a result of jealousy. We got to keep up with the joneses. I really want to know who this "joneses" family is, because they have it all!
Is there wars and fights in your life today? Maybe you need to take a look at where the strife is coming from. Think About It.
