Jesus Prayed For You

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
-John 17:20 (KJV)

We read, in John 17, a prayer that Jesus prayed just before His betrayal by Judas in the garden. In this prayer, He prays for Himself, His disciples and then the believers (that's you and me!). Did you ever stop and think about the fact that Jesus prayed for you? It's a humbling thought, for me anyway. Maybe, as Jesus was praying, He was looking down through the ages at those who would accept Him as their Savior. The rest of this week, I'd like to take time and look at what He prayed for us.

Verse 20 says, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;" Jesus had been praying for His disciples. Now, He is turning His focus onto the believers. He is praying for them which shall believe on me through their word. Whose word? The word of the disciples. In Matthew 28:19-20 we read their commission, " Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." The disciples were to go, teach all nations the things Jesus commanded them. If they failed to do that, then we'd be left knowing nothing about Jesus. My friends, I believe the commission that Jesus gave the disciples is given to us as well. Many people believed, and continue to believe, about Jesus through the word of the disciples, and through our teaching today.

Are you sharing your faith with others? Jesus prayed for you, are you ready to share the Word with others? Think About It.
