Why Bible Study in Important

The revelation of Your words brings light
and gives understanding to the inexperienced.
-Psalm 119:130 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Do you want a reason why I believe that daily study (not just casual reading) of the Bible is important? Look right here, to Psalm 119:130.

"The revelation of Your words brings light
and gives understanding to the inexperienced."

Throughout the Bible, we see how sin is labeled as "darkness" and the things of God as "light." We live in a sin fallen world. Sin surrounds us, and the opportunity to sin lurks around each and every corner. If you and I are going to live the life that Jesus has called us to live, then we must not stumble in the darkness, we must walk according to the light.  We receive that light through the Word of God. If you and I are going to walk as Jesus wants, we must spend time studying the Word of God.

The writer of Psalm 119 understood that idea. He understood the importance of following the Word of God. The Word of God shows us how to live the life we are called to live. The Word of God teaches  us about our sin, and our need of a Savior. The Word of God teaches us our past, and our future. The Word of God brings light into our sin infested world, and our sin infested life. But, it does something else. "gives understanding to the inexperienced." No matter how long you've been a Christian, you are still inexperienced in areas of life. The Word of God gives you understanding. Sometimes, something happens in life that leave you asking "Why?" The Word of God gives you understanding.

When was the last time you studied the Word of God? Think About It.
