As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
-Galatians 6:10 (King James Version)
Yesterday, we studied that we prove the love we claim for others by our actions. We must not just love in speech, but in deeds and actions. One of the comments I hear most often when I write about love is that the love is only extended towards other Christians. People tell me that we shouldn't love those outside the church. What? Sorry, but I don't buy into that argument.
Paul writes, in Galatians 6:10, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Paul is teaching us to do good unto all men, as the opportunity arises. That phrase "all men" means just that. All people. That is how we prove the love we claim to have, by doing good, for all people, as the opportunity allows. Then, he goes on, "especially unto them who are of the household of faith." This teaches us that we must do good unto everyone, but especially unto other Christians. This verse doesn't teach us to exclude those outside the church. We must do good to them, as well as those who are professing Christians.
Who do you show your love to? Think About It.
