But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
-Romans 5:8 (NLT)
Yesterday, we looked at love. Specifically, we looked at how nothing can separate us from the love of God. Today, I want to take a minute and look at the love God has for us.
Paul writes in Romans 5:8, "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were yet sinners." God shows his love for us by providing salvation through Jesus. Look at the words of Paul, "while we were yet sinners." When we were deep in sin, not caring what God wanted or desired for our lives, Jesus died for us. Let's back up a little bit in this chapter. Verse 7 says, " Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good." Paul is teaching us that most would not be willing to die for someone else. But, Jesus died for us, as sinners. Would you be willing to to die for someone else? Probably not, I doubt I would be. Let's back up a little further. Verse 6 says, "When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners." Again, look at this words: "When we were utterly helpless" When we were so deep in sin, when we couldn't find a way out, when we couldn't save ourselves, Jesus came and died for us-while we were sinners.
Friends, this shows how deep the love of God goes. God knows our sin, God knows that we do nothing but sin all the time. God knows that we live in sin. Yet, in spite of that, Jesus died for you and for me. Are you ready to put your faith in Jesus, and make Him your Lord and Savior? God loves you, even when you don't love Him. Think About It.
